May 25.2021: Together We Move fundraising comes to an end
THANK YOU for all who made this such a successful drive. We have now donated a total of $4065 to Kent Hospital Foundation for Covid Crisis Relief for India. Stay in tune as we share more stories from what's happening on the ground. May 23.2021: Today is the Day! Our current collection is $3473.59. We are speechless. Only two words come to mind: THANK YOU! Today our new and only goal is to have a blasting time with you all! Let's Dance for India! May 20.2021: Fundraising event 3 more days to go We now have a new goal of raising a total of $3000. We are almost there! May 19.2021: Fundraising event 4 more days to go We now have a new goal of raising a total of $3000. We are almost at $2900. Every penny counts. May 14.2021: Fundraising event update and first donation made What had started as a desperation of doing something for India as news kept coming about covid cases of immediate and extended families and friends (and still has not stopped), something that would take our minds off the constant worry of what/who is next, something that would help our students come together and support each other, something that would raise awareness about India's current Covid situation, something that comes easy to us while achieving all the above. Dancing and sharing it with others came to our mind. We decided to run an Indian dance class with a minimal fee and planned to donate all the fee to an international organization that is working in India. We set a goal of $250-300 to raise (which felt like a stretch to us). If you are first generation immigrant like Rutuja and Rupa, you know that friends here are your ‘family’, they are your village, pillars of support, emotional and psychological. Once we finalized our plan, we reached out to our friends – YOU – some old and some new. And within a span of ten days you supported us in ways beyond our imagination. We felt the love and compassion of our ‘village’. As the stars aligned, we were informed that two doctors from Rhode Island hospital are looking for ways to fill a cargo plane to deliver crucial medical stuff to India. (read the story here) As soon as we came to know about it we reached out to the doctors to get more details about what they are carrying, who they are working with on the ground, timeline etc. One of the doctors, Dr. Thakkar reached out and gave us full details about their mission. This really hit home in many ways to us. Rutuja and Rupa discussed and decided to make BFF's donation towards this mission. To us it meant: Sending support, love and hope from one home and our extended village here to the other home and extended village there. As the doctors plan to leave for India by next week, Kent Hospital Foundation (which they are affiliated with) is moving fast with purchases of medical stuff to be able to pack the plane. We have now donated the current collection of $2525 to them with a note of Good wishes from Rupa and Rutuja’s Village. Upon receipt Dr. Thakkar wrote: “This is absolutely amazing. I have no words to describe this. I am indebted to your support. I will keep you posted on where we are at and the happenings of the coming week.” We do not have enough words to express our gratitude to YOU. Your generous gift will make someone get better, help one more life to continue to breathe and give the children and adults a hope to live on, in India. We are indebted to you for this support. THANK YOU from the bottom of our heart. We still have exactly one more week to go for the event when we will all dance and move, TOGETHER, in tribute, celebration, meditation and in prayer. “Hard times require furious dancing” Alice Walker (in the book with the same name). We are looking forward to seeing you on May 23rd at 3:00pm (eastern time zone) or 12:00pm (Pacific time zone). We will be sending you a zoom the morning of that day. May 04.2021: Fundraising event launched with goal to raise $250-$300 India is facing an unprecedented surge in Covid-19. It's traumatic to see the pyres burning non-stop, no beds available in the hospitals, no oxygen facilities, shortage in vaccines to name some. Its heartbreaking to hear constant news of death of the loved ones, relatives and friends, for not being able to be there beside them to support. The hopelessness is spreading faster than we could imagine. We are desperate to help, to do something for them while creating an awareness around this situation. We realize dance is the answer. It is meditation, it is connection and we can share it with others. We are asking for support from all of you, our friends here in the USA and across the world to join us in this 'movement'. With your support and gift of registration to this event would provide medical services to a greater number of people in India. Lets get together and move for India.
